How To Excel at Attraction Marketing

Picture

Since the concept of Attraction Marketing became popular through the writings of Mike Dillard, Ann Sieg and others, every second Internet marketer seems to be jumping on the ‘I’m attractive’ bandwagon. And in many cases it doesn’t really work. This made me think about a recent television series.

I am not a great television fan, since I view it as an electronic income reducer. However, following my spouse's advice, I did watch the reality series 'True Beauty'. This is the show in which a group of people compete for the title of being the most beautiful person. I am not sure exactly which personal traits were being judged, but it was painful for me to watch the hollowness of this group of young ego-centric upstarts, so under the impression of their own ‘beauty’, yet so badly lacking real substance.

So does this television program have a bearing on online marketing? It surely has! On the Internet (as on TV) you cannot, in the long run, pretend to be what you are not. You cannot radiate qualities that you do not possess. Sure, you can fake it till you make it (it's very easy on the Internet). However, sooner or later, the cracks will shine through the veneer.

I like the idea of ‘authentic marketing’ better. Yes, if there is anything attractive about you, people will be drawn to you. Still, you should be authentic; i.e. you should project your genuine self in the first place. Do not fake it!

Here are a few things that you, as an Internet Marketer, can do to attract people to you:

-   Always be your authentic self. Do not pretend to be what you are not. Exhibit your good qualities, work hard on your shortcomings.

-   Be uniques (as far as possible) in terms of the way you present yourself on the Internet. Nobody finds a replicated 'cookie-cutter' appearance appealing.

-   Believe in yourself. Other people can sense that you do, or, conversely,  that you don't.

-   'Good enough' is not good enough. Remember that, as in normal interaction between people, first impressions are important.  And since first impressions on the Internet are based on web pages, try and put your best foot forward (technically speaking) on your blogs and landing pages.

-   Be visible! On the Internet that is very easy with present-day Web2.0 social media such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. If you did a Google search on your own name; how many of the listings on the first ten pages would be yours?

-   Work crazily at improving your marketing skills. Decide what you like, or can afford, be that PPC or video marketing or whatever, and become an expert in that area. By an 'expert' I mean that you can create a reasonable flow of leads with that technique, and that you can lecture on the subject. The better your skills, the better your self-confidence will be. With the massive amount of information and training available on the Internet, this is not an insurmountable challenge.

-   Assist other online marketers wherever you can. Give without expecting anything in return. One day it will come back to you, that’s the way the Universe operates. And please do not underestimate your skill-set. In August of 2009 there was an estimated one-point-six billion Internet users. If your marketing skills are average, it means that you know more than about eight-hundred million other Internet users.

Now go and attract some business!
